Eco afternoon tea from Cakey Love

Eco afternoon tea from Cakey Love

Sammy Foster’s culinary adventures started in New York in 2008, and she’s been cooking up a storm ever since. She has worked as breakfast chef at Green House Hotel in Bournemouth and pastry chef at Lord Bute in Highcliffe, among other places. She started Cakey Love – her eco afternoon tea delivery business based in Christchurch – in 2018.

Cakey Love offers full afternoon teas and cream teas as well as vegan versions of both. Also, boxes of vegan brownies or vegan graze gift boxes full of goodies such as cookies, brownies, shortbread and cakes. You have to get in quick for their seasonal treats; they were booked up for Mother’s Day in record time!

A green ethos informs every aspect of Cakey Love, from the packaging to the ingredients. The afternoon tea arrives in a recyclable box which has been designed so that the contents don’t need to be wrapped in plastic. Any ‘plastic’ you come across is actually made from corn starch. Anything that can’t be recycled can be returned to Cakey Love in exchange for a sweet something.

Using local and seasonal produce is important too. The ‘cake of the month’ is always based on what is available, such as New Forest berries in the summer.

I’d highly recommend Cakey Love for their friendly, professional service, their dedication to keeping it green and their gorgeous cakey creations. I’m still dreaming about that white-chocolate studded brownie…
