Vegan New Forest chocolates

When I saw the handiwork of The Chocolate Chanterelle on Instagram, I did a double take. Their chocolate ceps and chanterelles look too good to be true, so I just had to inspect them more closely.

I’ve had dalliances with dairy-free chocolate before and these dalliances haven’t been good - the words grainy, bland and dry spring to mind. In my humble opinion it’s the creaminess that makes a good chocolate. So I’m delighted to report (and I’m not even vegan) that these beauties are incredibly delicious. The subtle flavours of coconut and maple are warm and lovely, but it’s the smooth, indulgent melt that makes them so moreish and luxurious - and every bit as good as a dairy truffle.

The Chocolate Chanterelle is a small family business, born out of Sarah making her own chocolate using organic, vegan ingredients. She experimented with alternative types of sugar such as maple, coconut and raw cane sugars which are lower on the glycemic index and only uses natural plant-sourced food colourings and flavourings. Their packaging is all fully compostable/biodegradable too.

Buy online for £9.50 for a bag of three - worth every penny.
