Maja Barker Art: Good enough to eat
I was a very lucky girl at Christmas. My husband bought me my second original painting by Maja Barker. I don’t think a painting exists that is more my style. It incorporates all my favourite things: colour, pattern, vibrancy, strawberries, textiles. It makes me think of warm summer afternoons in the garden, and I blimmin’ love it.
Maja graduated from the University of Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts in 1992 – the same year she moved to the UK. As a single mum to two daughters and working two jobs, she’s only recently found the time to dust off her paintbrushes. She paints fruit and vegetables in acrylics. Maja says: “As we become more aware of the impact of meat consumption on our planet and veganism is ever more popular, I’m happy to be doing my bit to promote the beauty and simplicity of fruit and vegetables.”
