Vintage Emporium tearooms

Just before lockdown, I took my mum to the tearooms at Bournemouth Vintage Emporium for an early birthday treat. They were winding down, so didn’t have their usual range of cakes and bakes, but certainly enough to tempt us. Mum had an enormous slice of carrot cake (moist and cinnamony) and I had a mint Aero rocky road (a bit of chew, a bit of goo, a bit of crunch and light minty goodness). We both had flat whites made with Bad Hand Coffee, which I think is synonymous with a quality brew.

Cake and coffee aside, what an amazing place! The vintage furniture sits happily alongside fresh graphics by Ricky Also from Paintshop Studio. Throw in some retro kitchenalia and plants galore and it’s a visual feast.

It was lovely to meet Georgia who runs the tearooms, and to see her at work. From watching her say goodbye to the regulars before lockdown, we could see that she cares about people and they absolutely adore her. I know I sound like an old fart - and God, I feel like one these days - but it’s so heartening to meet a young woman like that: confident, genuine and a seriously talented baker. Can’t wait to go back after lockdown.
