Bottomless lunch at The Kitchen
This is the second time I’ve been for bottomless lunch at The Kitchen at Chewton Glen (James Martin’s place). I should clarify, it’s not the lunch that’s bottomless (although the portions are a very decent size), but the booze. At £25 for two courses, £30 for three courses and £10 for bottomless Prosecco or Bloody Mary’s, it’s pretty incredible value. The first time we went, we tested the bottomless promise HARD and I’m happy to report that the staff are very generous and attentive. We didn’t have to keep asking - they were going round and topping up unprompted. And the Prosecco is really excellent.
I already had one eye on the puddings, as is my way, so went straight in for the main course. I had the wonderfully tender treacle-cured sirloin with ALL the best accompaniments - beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, charred lettuce, root veg and red wine jus. It was nothing short of perfect.
For dessert I chose the chocolate choux bun filled with yuzu and mascarpone cream, topped with macadamia nuts and served with a warm chocolate sauce. Although it looked the size of my head, it was actually very light. It was everything I want in a dessert - chocolatey, creamy and indulgent with a lovely fruity tang. (The other dessert photo is of the whisky and white chocolate bread and butter pudding, which was also delicious).
What a lovely way to Sunday!
